Hatch Date: 2003
Allie is a DNA determined male African Grey that THRIVES on attention. His prior owner developed a cardiac condition and could no longer provide Allie the attention he adores. Allie while in foster care for a short period stepped up very quickly. He gets along very with his foster mom, dad, and two toddler boys (with caution and supervision as always). He would love to sit on your shoulder with you as you walk around the house. He is also content walking back and forth on the couch then to your shoulder and then nudge you with his beak for you to scratch his neck. He has recently been switched to Harrison’s pellets and needs to continue this high quality diet. He does still get some seed as foraging treats as Allie needs to learn how to entertain himself while in his cage. Foraging is critical for birds to learn so they dont get bored. Allie did pluck around his neck once and needs to be monitored. Allie’s previous owners stated that he can talk. So far we have heard “what?” Allie does MANY sounds and is comical with them at times. Allie also discovered the sound of a smoke detector. Allie learned by accident that he got attention (being told No) when he did this noise of a series of beeps or individual high pitched beeps so now does it when he is in his cage and sometimes when out and bored. In the short time being in foster care he has been provided with a consistent variety or learning DVDs, cartoons, and music to encourage new and exciting tones and noises. His undesirable noises are being ignored and desirable traits being acknowledged. Allie with time, patience, proper foraging training, and positive reinforcement can overcome what some may call “undesirable noise.”
