Gussie & Gertie are beautiful, female, young parakeets. The girls are usually quiet and enjoy the sights and sounds of humans. They primarily enjoy hopping around on the roof of their cage to eat millet and see the world from another vantage point. They enjoy time together in their cage with their toys. They also enjoy infrequent short flights away from their cage to explore and spread their wings. They are well adjusted to the sounds of the two rowdy young children and happy dog  in their foster home.    

Gussie's and Gertie's lives are enriched with each other’s company. These beautiful friends met only a few months ago, after each came into rescue after losing their bird companion and their homes.  Gertie is the younger and slightly larger of the two. Her hatch date is unknown  

Gussie's is approximately 4 years old.      

If Gertie is out and away from the cage, she can usually be carefully scooped into your hands, and happily stay on your hand or arm for a long awhile, feeling safe with you.  Once day, she even enjoyed helping her human foster sibling with his homework. In the cage, she is afraid of hands. With continued training she would likely become more comfortable with hands.

In Gussie’s former home, she enjoyed violin, organ, and piano music.
