Macaw : : Adult : : Medium
Hatch date 2002 Max is a 16 yr old suspected male Hahn’s Macaw. Max was surrendered into rescue since his owner started a family and couldn't provide the time and attention that Max deserves. Max sadly developed some cage aggression possibly due to not coming out of his inadequately sized cage and lack of toys. Since being in foster care, he now has a proper sized cage, learning the joys of toys, enjoys exploring the outside and inside of his cage and learning how to forage. Max still shows some aggression but it is not extreme. Max also plucks his chest when he feels something isnt right. Max has always been known to barber his wing feathers as well. While in foster care, plucking so far has not been noticed. Max was also on an all seed diet his entire life, but since being switched to a healthy diet in his foster home, his elevated blood values are now normal. Max’s primary caregiver was a male but does step up nicely(once out of cage) onto his foster mom’s fingers. Max even repeats, ”Step Up” and makes adorable kissing noises. Max also sounds like a nasally duck quacking which is quiet comical to hear. Max would do well in an experienced home of the “larger parrots.” He does not like the fast movement of children under 5 so older children are ideal. Max enjoys the company of other birds and is not phased by dogs, cats, or rabbits. If you are interested in adopting Max, please complete an application at: ftlob.rescuegroups.org Max is being fostered in Jefferson Township, NJ.
