Frankie is an adorable Hahns Macaw with a lot of potential.  We think he is around 12 or 13 years old.   His body was completely bald when he came to us, but his feathers are slowly starting to come in.  He is a friendly little guy, but his favorite words to say are “No!” and “Hello.” He loves dried pineapple, pistachios, and pears.  We are still working on veggies…  Balance is an issue for him because of his missing feathers, so he does have to be watched outside of his cage.  His favorite place to be is on top of his cage looking out the window or on my shoulder.  When I come home, he always yells hello when I walk in.  I usually keep the cage open during waking hours.  He will climb around and entertain himself or yell for someone to bring him treats.  He is a typical macaw clown hanging upside down and making silly noises.  He is also used to being covered every night at 8 o’clock, and he will nicely (for real) remind you.  He will go in his cage on demand too.  There is never a fight when it’s time to lock him up.

Frankie is looking for someone with lots of time to love him so he won’t get bored.  He needs to be in a single family home because occasionally he wants to make sure everyone remembers he is there (he really doesn’t scream as much as other macaws I have had though).  He is used to dogs, cats, and other birds, but I wouldn’t advise letting him play with other birds, because he does have a history of plucking his previous friends.  He loves scratches on the back of his neck.  He is shy about stepping up though.  He doesn’t feel secure on hands because of no wings to balance him, but I am sure that will improve as his feathers continue to come in.  He does not mind stepping from his cage to your shoulder though…  But make sure you are wearing an old shirt (He has chewed holes in several of mine!).  And he loves to preen you…  Everyone at work said they loved the new hair cut he gave me!

Frankie is currently being fostered in Howell, NJ and will require multiple visits prior to adoption.

For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Philadelphia; we do not have a central location. We require that our adopters be driving distance from a birds foster home as we do not ship our birds. Due to our adoptable birds being fostered in private homes we only allow approved adoption applicants to make visits.
