Meet Chica (formerly Chico), a 22-year old female Yellow-Nape Amazon.  Her former family was told Chica was male so they named her Chico. When she laid an egg at 20 years old they changed her name to Chica!

She has a healthy vocabulary, and many mornings she will greet you with a “Good Morning” or by singing “Oh it’s a beautiful morning!”  The “Happy Birthday” song is also a favorite of hers, along with many other words and phrases.

Chica likes to be out of her "home" – she’s content to sit on top, but since her wings are currently clipped, she’ will climb down anything to explore her surroundings. Chica is also a good escape artist if she’s not locked up tight.  She will step-up when asked, unless she feels she hasn’t been out long enough – then a perch will get her to step-up and be returned home.  She’s also very fond of her warm water mist baths, and doesn’t show much interest in her foster family's dog.

Chica is currently on a ZuPreem and fruit/nut blend diet, mixed with chopped fresh veggies (carrots, celery, red pepper, etc.).  While Chica wasn’t covered in the past at night, she’ll quiet down quickly with a blanket thrown over her cage, otherwise expect a lot of pillow talk.

Chica has been disease tested for PBFD and chlamydia. She will require at least three in-person visits to her foster home prior to adoption.

Chica is currently being fostered in Manahawkin, NJ and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance to her foster home. We do not ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Philadephia, we have no central location. As our birds are living in volunteer foster homes only approved applicants are allowed to make visits.
