Sophie is a senior female Lutino cockatiel.  Do you have a soft spot for seniors?  The young man who surrendered Sophie called FTLOB to say he had a 3 year old cockatiel that was sick/hurt, and he didn't have the resources for vet care. One of our FTLOB fosters picked her up, took her straight for emergency care and learned she had a piece of broken egg stuck inside and a likely hernia.  We also learned that Sophie's age was much closer to 20 years old than three!  The young man who surrendered her, bought her from a breeder he found online, who sold him Sophie as a three year old cockatiel.   We can only imagine that, after a long, hard life as a breeder bird, conceivably making the breeder thousands of dollars,, the breeder figured, if Sophie can't lay eggs well anymore, he'd at least get what he could for her.  

FTLOB was able to get Sophie the medical care she needed, which luckily didn't require surgery.  She's received Lupron shots, which has her hormones in check, and her previous hernia is almost gone.  Sophie is a sweet, gentle bird, who is so curious and interested in her surroundings, almost like she's seeing things for the first time.  She's just begun to work out her wings to stay strong, probably because she feels better and has a big enough cage to do so finally..  She will step up after some coaxing, LOVES her millet and is a surprisingly good flyer.  While watching TV, you can sit with her, quietly on your chest, while she preens her pretty, yellow feathers.  

Sophie would do best in a home with another female cockatiel, as she will call back and forth with the other birds in her foster home, but she could also be an only bird, provided you'll fill in as her "flock".  Sophie deserves nothing but happy days from here on, and if you think you can give her the forever home she has earned, put in your application today!!
