About Luna

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Bird
  • General Color: Gray

Luna is a female, all-grey, apps 6-yr-old cockatiel.

Luna was rescued from an abusive home.  Her original owner loved Luna a lot and took very good care of her, but unfortunately she had to leave the home due to abuse. The person who remained with Luna didn’t take good care of her, and it wasn’t a safe or healthy environment for a bird.

Despite this, Luna is the sweetest and gentlest girl her foster mom has ever worked with!  She is also very trusting. She was immediately willing to hang out with her foster mom and never seems afraid. She knows how to step up and is happy to sit on your shoulder and hang out. She loves getting her head and ears scratched!  Sometimes she’ll get a little nippy if you invade her space, but she has a very gentle bite and has never hurt her foster mom.  We do not know how Luna would react to another bird, but so far it seems like she would be a great bird to have around children since she is very gentle.

Luna is not a needy bird.  She is very quiet — she is not a big singer, but also not a big screamer.  She’s not loud in the morning.  The only time when she really speaks up is if you leave the room, because she wants to know where you went and she misses you!  However, she’s also good at entertaining herself while she’s alone.  She especially likes her shreddable toys and anything papery; she picks away at them throughout the day, but very delicately like a princess

Luna is fully flighted, but she’s not a super strong flyer.  Mostly, she’ll take flight if she wants to go back to her birdcage to preen or get a snack. Diet-wise, she is not very interested in eating fresh fruits and vegetables (it’s something to work on). Currently, Luna eats zupreem and Harrison’s pellets and a birdseed mixture.  She has shown interest in eating some fruits, like oranges and apples.

Anyone would be lucky to adopt this beautiful, sweet, gentle bird!

Luna is being fostered in Philadelpha, PA.
