About Marty

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Bird
  • General Color: Green
  • Color: Black capped
  • Current Age: 3 Years (best estimate)
  • Exercise Needs: Moderate
Hatch Date : 2021

Marty is a beautiful 4 and a 1/2 month old, male, Black-Capped African Conure.
He was purchased from a reputable breeder in February 2021.
Marty comes with a clean bill of health, birth certificate, and all the instructions you need.

Marty is fun and friendly and loves to be with people. He will happily sit on your shoulder all day, or a perch by the window or chatter away and play with his toys.
He is hand tame but still can be nippy if handled too roughly.
Marty loves apples, blueberries, carrots, and scrambled eggs along with other fresh organic foods and pellets.
We have not had his wings (or nails) clipped since we got him and he can fly about 15 feet or so.

During the day, if it’s warm enough out, we bring Marty’s cage out on the back deck and he will sit and eat his food and chirp away at the birds on our feeder.
He gets up around 7:30/8am, and goes to bed at 8pm in his cage which we cover.
He does not like going to bed, but once in his cage he’s fine.  Who does ? ;)

When we leave the house for any length of time during the day, we put him in his cage, for safety.
If you don't you’ll come home and find him walking around on the floor.
Marty spends about an hour or two in his cage during the day, otherwise he is out and about with you or playing with his toys in the play area we have set up.

Marty would be ideal for an individual or a family who have previously owned birds.
They should have knowledge about birds and bird safety.
We would like to find people preferably home during the day as he loves company.
Marty is still very young Conure and as such, still is learning how to properly behave.
He can nip and  occasionally flies around so he is not suitable for homes with young children/babies or dogs/cats that can pose a threat to him.

It’s also important to be able to lift his entire cage so you can take it outside and clean it properly at least once per week, in addition to changing his cage paper every day.

Marty is in our Help With Rehoming program
He is located in Mendham , NJ and will only be adopted to a forever home within easy driving distance. Multiple visits are required prior to adoption. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated private foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA, we do not have a central location. As our adoptable birds are living in our volunteers' homes, only approved applicants are allowed visit.

If interested in meeting Marty please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org to read our adoption policies and to complete an adoption application.
