Jimmie is a 9 year old, suspected male, Timneh African Grey.
Jimmie is a 9 year old, suspected male, Timneh African Grey.
He is a sweet and gentle guy who does well with both his foster mom and foster dad. He generally prefers to stay in/on his cage but will fly off if spooked.
Jimmie loves clicker training and dances in excitment for his sessions. This kind of enrichment and stimulation is great for birds! To get him more comfortable coming out of his cage his foster family will use the click/reward method. If Jimmie does not want to come out of his cage, even for a sunflower seed reward, he sometimes will take his frustration out on a toy.
Jimmie is hand tame but is not always in the mood to hang out on you. His foster family has been using his clicker training to help him become more confident with stepping up from his cage however if not in the mood he will gently move their hands away. Once he is off his cage he will step up. If he is in the mood to be with his foster parents Jimmie will climb off his cage and come find you. When left unsupervised off his cage there is a potential for him to chew molding, walls and get into trouble.
He loves interacting vocally (with call noises not words) and has asked for a few head scratches at bedtime this way. He also accepts beak rubs.
Jimmie's ideal family will have tons of patience, large bird experience and dedication to help Jimmie grow his confidence through enrichment and trust.
Jimmie is transitioning to a healthy diet of pellets and really loves his foraging wheel.

Jimmie has been disease tested and will be adopted with his cage, disease test results, toys and food to get her forever home started. He requires at least three in person visits before he can be adopted.
Jimmie is being fostered in Chester, PA and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance after the multiple in-person visits are completed. We do not ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA - we do not have a central location. As Jimmie is living in a volunteer's home, we only allow approved applicants to make visits.
