About Penguin

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Bird
  • General Color: Gray
  • Current Age: 21 Years 9 Months (best estimate)

Hatch Date: Approx 2002

Penguin is a female Timneh African Grey, best estimated about 20 years old, she has lived happily with her now owner for 13 years. She has been an active and healthy bird all her life.

Penguin is a curious bird and likes to explore everywhere in the house. She can fly short distances. She needs to be carefully supervised when she is out of the cage.

She is hand tamed and loves to run right up to your shoulder. She does not talk or whistle and most of the time is quiet when around people.

She is a vegetarian and has multigrain bread in the morning and Zupreem pellets for dinner. Penguin is a picky eater, but she does like eggs, tofu, apple, grape, cooked vegetables, and uncooked pasta. She surely likes nuts as a 0treat, especially unsalted baked walnut, almonds, and pecans.

Penguin is eager to go out of the cage after breakfast and dinner to walk around the house for about 1 hr each time. She is put to bed around 10 pm and her cage is covered. She wakes up at around 8 am.

She shows jealousy toward other birds and likes to bask in all the attention from her human friends. She would do best in a one-bird family and ideally, the primary caregiver is home most of the time

She has been disease tested for PBFD and Chlamydia with negative results and will be adopted out with her current enclosure, toys, and food to get her forever home started.

Penguin lives in Mount Arlington, NJ, and is participating in our Help With Rehoming program. She will only be adopted by someone that is willing to drive to do the required visits. We will NOT ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA, we have no central location. As our adoptable birds are living in volunteer homes, or in their family home, we only allow approved applicants to meet our birds.

If interested in meeting Penguin, please review our adoption policies and complete an adoption application on our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org.
