Kono is a 25-year-old, Female (assumed) Goffins Cockatoo
She came to us because her owner passed away.

She seems to prefer to interact with women, but we have seen no aggression at all toward men or teenage children.

She started out being extremely quiet (for a Cockatoo), and shy, but sweet at the same time.
She has become much more comfortable with her foster home and is starting to open up.
She can now be loud at times, as most Cockatoos can be.

She will NOT do well in an apartment, condo, or townhouse.

She does not seem to know how to step up or has not done so in a long time
Her foster home is working with her daily to see if she can overcome her 
trust issues.
She will not come out of the cage on her own but will allow her foster mom to take her out of the cage. 
Cuddling and sitting on her shoulder seems to be her favorite activity.

Started allowing bathing with a spray bottle, and seems to really enjoy it.

She has been to the vet for a full exam and blood work.
Her diet we believe was primarily seeded, and maybe
some salted nuts at times :( 
We are working on improving her diet and she is taking to fresh foods and the new pellet diet very well :) 

She has started to show interest in talking, but we can not quite make out what she is trying to say just yet.

She has been around a dog before, and one other bird in her past home.

She will NEED to be supervised at all times around other animals. 
She has full flight but has not used it in quite some time, so not very good at it, but if spooked has shown that she can.
This means she will NOT be able to get away from a threat. 
That is why supervision is very important.

Kono is being fostered in Leonardo, NJ
, and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance.
We will NOT ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA - we do not have a central location.
Kono is living in a volunteer's private home; we only allow approved applicants to make visits.
