About Holly

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Bird
  • General Color: Gray
  • Current Age: 25 Years 3 Months (best estimate)

Hatch Date: 2000

Holly is a 23-year-old full-feathered DNA Female African Grey Congo.

She lost her home due to the health issues of her human mom.
She was raised in a hectic household with children and two dogs.
She is a quiet bird and very seldom makes any noise.
The Foster mom hasn’t experienced any screaming, or feather plucking.

During the day, which starts around 6:30 AM, she comes out
of her cage and enjoys sitting on her Manzanita tree.
She rarely flies off of it.
She plays on the stand or returns to her cage during the day.
She’s content on her tree.

She gets animated and dances when you whistle and dance with her.
She gets put back into her cage for the night around 8:30 PM.
She has a good appetite –raised on pelleted food
(Kaytee for parrots) and lots of fruit and veggies.
She likes mandarin oranges, broccoli, celery, carrots, lettuce,
strawberries, mango, green beans, apples, and nuts
(cashews and peanuts in the shell -unsalted!).
She also likes rice, pasta, cooked egg, and chicken.

The Foster mom is working on her becoming more hand trained.
Her prior family said she was hand trained and knows the UP and Down commands.
Currently, she only does the UP command for foster mom when
she flies off and lands on the floor.

She will give nips when a hand gets too close to her.
She is not yet responding to the UP command for foster mom,
but we are working on it and she is still adjusting to a
new environment and people.

She enjoys being sprayed with warm water and flaps happily in the mist.
Prior mom said she takes baths in her water bowl, foster mom
hasn’t yet experienced this with her.

She is good with dogs and being in a busy household.
She is currently in an adults-only home, so no direct knowledge
of interactions with children.
Her prior family did have children, but they didn’t touch her,
she was taken more with the adult male of the house.
If you have the time and patience to work with Holly and build trust,
she would make a wonderful addition to a household.

She is a beautiful, quiet, aware bird.

Holly is being fostered in Easton, PA, and will require
three in-person visits before the adoption.
We will NOT ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes
throughout NJ and Eastern PA.
As our adoptable birds are living in private homes, we only allow
approved adopters to make the required visits.
If you are interested in adopting Holly, please visit our
website ftlob.rescuegroups.org
