Hatch Date: 1994 Brutus is a 29-year-old Lilac Crowned Amazon who we believe is a boy.
He has never been DNA tested.
He is hand-raised, smart, loving, and very affectionate.
He lived with a female Dusky Pionus named Etu for 24 years up until she passed away.
Even though they are not birds who are thought to be compatible buddies, they were best buds
and preened each other often and occasionally fought over a peanut.
As a result of Etu's passing, Brutus has been the only bird in the family for the past few years.
His family gives him a lot of attention, but he misses not being with another bird.
He will likely do great in a home with another bird nearby and people who work from home
or are home a lot would be ideal.
When Mom and Dad leave the house, he goes into his cage easily when they say,
“Go on in, we will be right back".
He likes to spend most of the day out of his cage.
He has a plate of unsalted pistachios, blueberries, apples, tangerine, chicken bones
(which he loves), and other nuts and vegetables.
He gets covered at night and is quiet until he is uncovered in the morning.
He loves to have attention.
Brutus enjoys sitting on his mom's shoulder and getting head and neck massages.
Brutus also loves lying on his Dad's chest.
Brutus likes watching football and makes hysterical noises from his cage.
He can say Hello, Whoop Woo, and wolf whistles,
He used to make a monkey noise.
He loves to be talked to and told he is a good boy.
He loves call-and-response games and chewing on his wood toys.
Brutus will call out if he wants attention.
Brutus has bitten people a few times over the years when something may have spooked him.
Like someone passing by with a broom handle.
He lets you know if he doesn’t want to be picked up with a little growl.
This behavior is not very often.
Usually, all you have to do is make your finger available and say step up and he does.
He is a very loving boy who needs a home where he can get a lot of love and attention.
His family had a dog and they got along fine.
He loves people and is good with pretty much everyone when he gets to know them.
Brutus has not been around children much, so it is not known how he would respond to them.
Brutus has been disease tested, and when adopted will come with all documentation. Brutus is in his home in Hoboken, NJ, and is participating in our Help with Rehoming program.
He will only be adopted by someone willing to drive to do the required 3 visits.
We will NOT ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.
We do not have a central location.
As our adoptable birds are living in volunteer homes, or their family home,
we only allow approved applicants to meet our birds.
If interested in meeting Brutus, please review our adoption policies and
complete an adoption application on our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org.
