About Charlie

  • Status: Available for Adoption (adoption info)
  • Species: Bird
  • General Color: Gray

Hatch Date: Unknown

Charlie is a darling male cockatiel with an unknown hatch date.
He was brought to FTLOB by a Good Samaritan who found Charlie in his yard.
He’d been attacked by some predator or other and had a significant wound on his right side.
This did not slow him down!

He is a competent flyer and uses his enormous feet to forage all over his foster home’s floors and tabletops.
He is curious and sweet, and he came into his foster home already stepping up.
He very gently and frequently tilts his head for scritches, so it is evident someone loved him before he got to us.
We put out multiple listings to find his former family but had no luck.
He has completed antibiotics for his wound, and it seems to be healing very well.

Charlie makes the typical cockatiel noises and whistles tunes.
He also has one sound that very much seems like an imitation of a fire engine siren.

Since we had no idea what he ate before, we started him right away on chop and pellets, and he eats the chop with enthusiasm.
The pellets seem to be more of a chore, but he does eat them.
He’s very curious to try just about anything.

He will put himself to bed at night if he’s out too late, but during the day, it takes a millet bribe to get him back into his house.
He’s incredibly sweet and affectionate, and quite a character.
He interacts beautifully with both parents in the foster family and is just as well-behaved with their 12-year-old kiddo.
He would make a great addition to any family looking for a funny and sweet bird.

Charlie has been disease-tested for chlamydia and PBFD (beak and feather disease)

Charlie is being fostered in Cherry Hill, NJ.
He will require in-person visits before adoption.
We do not ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.
As our adoptable birds are living in private volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits.
