Hatch Date: Approx 2003 Louie has transitioned to a diet of Lafebers pellets and fresh chop. She prefers the pellets to the chop, but truly loves fruit of any kind. Pistachios and grapes are her favorite treats. She also gets excited for sunflower seeds.
Due to some high triglycerides, she will need to have sugars (such as fruits) limited.
Louie was very friendly with the man in the house she lived in prior to coming to us. She definitely has a preference for men, but isn't aggressive toward women. She seems to not love hands in the foster home, but that could be early shyness. She will come quite close to our chests and arms, but only tolerates hands if they are holding a treat. She takes treats nicely. She allows head scritches rarely from only one person in the house. She is not cage aggressive when we are cleaning her cage, offering a treat, or changing food/water. She does defend her cage against other birds, however. She may do well in a house with other large birds, but likely wouldn't do well in a home with smaller birds that fly around and believe every house is their house.
She says "Hello?" if she is feeling ignored, and rarely will give a few yells. She is not a screaming bird (in her 6 weeks in foster care-- so that may change). She yells if the family yells, and will scream along with screaming on the TV. Yelling and raised voices seem to make her anxious. Louie flies, but has only gone short distances in the foster home. She seems happy to chew up her toys and hang out on the perches on top and the outsides of her cage. |
