African Grey : : Male : : Senior : : Large
Hatch Date: 1991 Avery is a senior, male, Congo African Grey.
Avery makes several interesting sounds. Fortunately, no smoke alarm beeping.
He comes out of his cage on his own and will step up for his foster mom when on the floor. He did not have a lot of human interaction in his previous home, especially the last few years he was not allowed out of his cage. His foster mom is taking it slow with Avery to build trust. He lived in one home with a 30-year-old Umbrella Cockatoo his entire life. The cages were side by side, but the birds did not interact.
Avery is on a pellet diet. He is being introduced to grains and veggies, but so far hasn't eaten them. He did not have any shreddable toys in his old cage but has started playing with shreddable toys in his new, larger cage. He is also learning to forage.
The past few years, as Avery did not have attention or time out of his cage, he began to pluck. It is unknown at this time if his feathers will grow back. He is missing many primary feathers, and this combined with his being a little overweight, he is unable to fly.
Avery was examined by an avian vet and a had complete blood work up. All was good except his calcium levels are low. He is now getting calcium supplementation on his food. Other Pictures of Avery (click to see larger version):
