About Beaker

  • Status: Available for Adoption (adoption info)
  • Species: Bird
  • General Color: Green
  • Current Age: 31 Years 2 Months (best estimate)

Hatch Date: February 1993

Beaker is a 30-year-old, senior male Meyer's Parrot.
He lived with one guardian his whole life, but sadly his dad just passed away.
Beaker lived life like a king and was spoiled. He ate every meal with his dad.
He likes cut-up fruit for breakfast such as strawberries, blueberries, grapes, apples, and oranges.
For dinner, he gets chopped-up veggies which he is less fond of.
He came into his foster home with three different bags of nuts.
His foster mom introduced him to zupreem pellets which he has been eating.
She is trying to make pellets his main diet along with fruit and veggies.
All other foods are treats.
In the morning Beaker will call out for his breakfast.
He is also very vocal if you walk near his cage.
He is likely calling out for company and can say a few words, but his foster
Mom isn't sure what he is saying.

Beaker can be a crotchety old man.
Interactions are on his terms.

He knows the word perch and will step up on one when presented.
However, he will also just as quickly fly off if he so desires.
His foster mom was told that she would need a suit of armor to interact with him
so she wouldn't get her arm bit off.
He isn't nearly that bad, but can bite when he doesn't want to interact with you.
And he bites hard and doesn't let go right away.
He loves head scratches and will tilt his head and scratch it himself to let you
know he would like his head scratched now. He will do this a few times if you
are not quick on the uptake.
Beaker had toys in his cage, but nothing he could shred when he came into his foster home.
He has quickly taken to playing with Chinese finger traps and corrugated paper.
Beaker is a very good flyer.
He has not been around other birds, and so far is being quarantined in his foster home.
His foster mom will introduce him to other small birds in the house and see how he does.

Beaker is being fostered in Manalapan, NJ, and will require three in-person visits before adoption.
We do not ship our adoptable birds.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.
As our adoptable birds are living in volunteer homes, we only allow approved
adopters to make the required visits.
If interested in adopting Beaker, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org
and read our adoption policies, fees and to complete an adoption application.
